History
of YAMAMOTO DENDROBIUMS

YAMAMOTO DENDROBIUMS was established by Jiro Yamamoto in Japan 1952. He started off with nobile type Dendrobium cultivation by working in sterilized culture research.

In 1957, he began his challenge to improve quality of dendrobiums by hybridizing. Over 50 years of continuing effort, he introduced new Dendrobiums of highest quality to the world market.

Around 1966, his effort started to draw attention of oversea magazines and newspapers, receiving favorable responses from orchids growers of foreign countries. After entering the Competitive Exhibition of British Royal Horticultural Society and receiving an award in 1969, superb quality of his dendrobiums attracted greater attention and drew requests to export to America and Europe, Australia, Mexico, Argentine and Brazil.

In 1973, his research successfully established the proliferation method of nobile type Dendrobiums, culminating to worldwide distribution. As a result, the production of high quality Dendrobiums in large quantity became possible and further expanded its market reaching many European countries.

In 1974, one of the first branches of nurseries were established abroad in Hawaii, U.S.A.

In 1982, we established our second branch in Chiang Mai of Thailand. As a result, it moved forward the production of tissue culture (mericlone) plants for Europe and American markets in full operation.

At this main nursery in Hamano, Okayama City, Japan, seedling production, seeding and tissue culture (mericlone) production are, to some extent, always in progress. From this greenhouse, new varieties of the selected best are shipped worldwide.

Head nursery in Japan, continue to research for improve quality of dendrobiums by hybridizing. Producing new Dendrobiums of highest quality.

The improved and innovated seedling are cultivate in Japan and then shipped out to Thailand for bioproduction. Next, they are sent to the Hawaii branch and to our representative in Holland, where they are then distributed to Mainland America, Europe, and numerous other locations in the world.
